June 9th, 2005 by Phantasmo Dredg drops some serious headphone candy
Rich layers, intricate guitar playing, some of the most delicate piano on a proper rock album, and singer Gavin Hayes’ soaring voice, this album has already pole-vaulted to the top of my 2005 Top 11 list. I think I listened to it about a dozen times all the way through the first day I got it. I’m not really sure why Dredg gets lumped into the same category as Alien Ant Farm, Papa Roach, and other nu-metal bands because they sound like no other band I’ve ever heard, and certainly not those bands. They did tour with the Deftones at one point, which I can understand, but definitely not Alien Ant Farm. That’s just crazy talk. Standout tracks: Bug Eyes, Sang Real, and Zebra Skin, the latter of which sounds oddly like some G-funk song. Catch Without Arms is a must-have.
