Anything is possible

So, Pink Floyd reunited for the Live 8 London show, and I can’t figure out for the life of me why no one gives a shit about this. This is an epic event of biblical proportions and Will Smith was getting more press coverage than the mighty Floyd.

If you watched the event, the crowd was going absolutely apeshit when the opening chords of ‘Breathe’ kicked in, but I had to scour the internet for a single decent article about the reunion. Where have all the Pink Floyd fans gone? And I don’t mean the auto mechanic that cranks ‘Money’ when it comes on the classic rock station at the garage, I mean the fans (like myself) who are in utter awe of David Gilmour’s guitar playing. The guy is completely flawless and sounds exactly like he did over 30 years ago. If you ever want to see just how much of a fucking bad ass he really is, check out his solo concert DVD, David Gilmour In Concert, and watch him KILL.

So, a good friend recorded the set for me and I’ve probably watched it 15 times since yesterday. My only complaint – MTV or VH1 or whoever broadcast it interrupted Gilmour’s ‘Comfortably Numb’ solo to tell the TV audience what a monumental event this was – yeah, thanks! I know! Shut up and get back to the song! Other than that, it was perfect. The band was completely emotional (except for Gilmour, who’s like a brick) – Roger Waters was visibly choked up when opening up ‘Wish You Were Here’ and drummer Nick Mason looked like he was holding back tears during the ‘just a little pin prick’ line of ‘Comfortably Numb’.

This is not just some crappy stoner throwback rock band. This is PINK FUCKING FLOYD. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go watch their Live 8 set again.
