When I first read about the album, it was these match ups that made me want to get it. Can you imagine the prospect of hearing tracks with both GZA & Ras Kass or MF Doom and RZA? I read that and was like “hell yes!” But the album is much, much more than just an interesting concept: the album lives up to even the highest hip-hop expectations. The sounds are brought to you courtesy of Bronze Nazareth – who does most of the production – and several other guest producers including Preservation (“Still Grimey,” “Preservation,” and “Give It Up”) RZA (“Biochemical Equation”) DJ Noize (“Verses”) and Mathematics (“Cars On The Interstate.”) Both Bronze and the rest of the producers do a great job layering beats and other samples that keep the track fresh and interesting. All of the lyricists take full advantage of the head bobbing beats by throwing down some of the best raps you’re likely to hear in a long time. Even Bronze gets a piece of the action on the tracks “Street Corners” and “Black Dawn.” Rounding out this fine disc is the great little booklet inside that discusses the evolution of each song. All in all, this is definitely the must have hip hop record of 2005/early-2006. Like me, I’ll bet that you can’t help but be blown away by the unique blend lyricists and traces of classic Wu Banger material. This is definitely an album that everyone should check out. |
