Mastodon are returning with their fifth full length titled “Crack The Skye”. No strangers to the concept album, these complex metal masters are sure to leave fans scratching their heads as to what the hell the latest concept is. I don’t know either…something about Icarus-like protagonists, Rasputin incarnations, astral travel and of course, wizards with pet bears. Does it really matter? Mastodon rock and this time are promising much more complex arrangements, less riffage/more melody and banjos if the first single “Divinations” is any indication. “Crack The Skye” hits stores March 24th. Those who like their album packaging telescopic and chalked full of incredible artwork look no further. EDIT: There is a new killer site for Crack the Skye site here.
