Yes, I know, I know you’re already tired of hearing about Twitter and you’re not even sure what the hell it is yet. Though the social networking or in this case ‘micro-blog’ site sprang up sometime mid-last year it’s quickly taken the internets by storm. The reason you’ve been hearing so much about it is because it really is pretty genius. Who would have thought something so simple could be so fun and addictive? It seems everyone has a Twitter account whether it’s friends, corportations, or your favorite celebrity. Hell, even the Pentagon has a twitter. Follow news, which airline flights offer Wi-Fi, your favorite musician, photo or site links, even the latest in volcano status from the AVO, it’s all there. For me it’s mostly just a nice escape. Yes, in fact I’m all about Twitter. I follow it from the web via their home site, background apps Tweetdeck or Tweetie for desktop and iphone app. I’m partial to Tweetdeck and it’s curious chime that let’s you know there is an unread twit/twat in your queue. That summoning “bing” has got me trained like one of Pavlov’s dogs. Tweetie for iphone is excellent because it allows you to scan to find other twitterers nearby and also not only lets you follow, but read responses to your favorites. Years from now will we look back at Twitter as a lame fad? Who knows. For now it’s the new wave of social networking. |
